Inherited from Proto-Turkic *artuk (“more, much”), a development from *art- (“to increase”), whence آرتمق (artmak, “to increase, augment”). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰺𐱃𐰸 (r¹t¹q̊¹ /artuq/), Azerbaijani artıq, Chuvash ытах (yt̬ah), Kazakh артық (artyq) and Uzbek ortiq.
