اِبْتَسَمَ • (ibtasama) VIII (non-past يَبْتَسِمُ (yabtasimu), verbal noun اِبْتِسَام (ibtisām))

1. to smile, to give somebody a friendly smile

   الرَّجُلُ يَبْتَسِمُ لِزَوْجَتِهِ

   ar-rajulu yabtasimu lizawjatihi

   The man smiles at his wife.

     إِذَا رَأَيْتَ نُيُوبَ ٱللَّيْثِ بَارِزَةً
     فَلَا تَظُنَّنَّ أَنَّ ٱللَّيْث يَبْتَسِمُ

     ʔiḏā raʔayta nuyūba l-layṯi bārizatan
     falā taẓunnanna ʔanna l-layṯ yabtasimu

     If you see the lion’s fangs protruding,
     Think not that the lion is smiling.
