From Ancient Greek Ἡράκλεια (Hērákleia), which replaced the older name of the site, that was Κῠ́βῐστρᾰ (Kúbistra). Doublet of آراقلی (Araklı). This town was previously known also as قرامان ارگلیسی (Karaman Ereğlisi) or قونیه ارگلیسی (Konya Ereğlisi) to distinguish it from other places with the same name.
