1. to belittle, to take lightly, to flout, to make light of
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 43:54:

     فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ

     fāstaḵaffa qawmahu faʔaṭāʕūhu

     And so he fooled his people, and they obeyed him.

2. (transitive) to find (something) light (not heavy)

   Antonym: اِسْتَثْقَلَ (istaṯqala)
