From Proto-Iranian *xad- (to beat, strike, inflict a wound, hurt), of uncertain origin. Tentatively compared with Sanskrit कदन (kadana, destruction) and Ancient Greek κεκᾰδών (kekadṓn, robbing), though these come with phonetic difficulties.[1] Within Iranian, cognate with Khotanese khasta- (beaten, pained), Parthian xd- (xad-, to injure), xdm (xaδm, wound), etc.
