Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish سوكوشاك (sügüşek/süŋüşek), سوكوشاك (sügşek/süŋşek), which is believed to derive from Proto-Turkic *süŋüĺek, a development from *süŋgü (“spear”); for the semantic development spear → lightning, compare Latin sagitta (“arrow”) and the Italian descendant saetta (“lightning”).
