From the root ك ن س (k-n-s). In Fraenkel’s and Nöldeke’s view the meaning “to sweep” is from Aramaic כְּנַשׁ / ܟܢܫ (kənaš, to gather; to sweep), denominal via مِكْنَسَة (miknasa, broom). Note Mehri kənūs (to sweep).
