From Middle Persian (llc-ytn /⁠larzīdan⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *rarz-. Cognate to Pashto رېږدېدل (reẓ̌dedəl, “to tremble”).

1. to shiver, to shudder; to shake, to tremble

   لرزیدن از ترس ― larzidan az tars ― to shiver from fear

   لرزیدن از سرما ― larzidan az sarmâ ― to shiver from the cold

     حدیث عشق شود ناله ترجمانش و لرزد
     چو شیشه دل ‌که‌ کشد تیغ از میانش و لرزد

     čô šîša-yi dil ki kašad têğ az mîyân-aš u larzad

     The story of love becomes its translator’s sigh, and trembles;
     Like the flask of the heart, which draws a blade from its middle, and trembles.
