Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac. Of the pattern 12ī3āyā or ܚܲܕ݇ (ḥa, “one”) +‎ -ܝܐ (-āyā, the attributive adjective ending); cognate to Arabic وَحِيد (waḥīd) and Hebrew יָחִיד (yakhíd).

     w-mīr lēh allāhā: “šqōl l-ibrōḵ īḥīḏāyā īsḥāq, d-kē maḥbit lēh, w-zē lōḵ l-arˁā d-mūrīyā; w-aˀsiq lēh tammā l-diḇḥā muqḏā, ˁal ḥa min ṭūrē d-āmrēn lōḵ.”

     And He said: ‘Take now your only son Isaac, whom you love and go to the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt-offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell you of.’

     For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
