From ܢܘܼܪܵܐ (nūrā, “fire”) + -ܢܝܐ (-nāyā, the intensive attributive adjective ending). Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, calque of Ancient Greek πῡρᾰμῐ́ς (pūramís) based of the popular folk etymology of it being derived of πῦρ (pûr, “fire”).
