ܦܵܩܸܥ ܠܸܒܵܐ • (pāqiˁ libbā)

1. (transitive, intransitive) to be greaty and suddenly startled/shocked (from fear that creates worry)

   ܦܩܝܼܥ ܠܹܗ ܠܸܒܝܼ ܟܲܕ݂ ܫܡܝܼܥ ܠܝܼ ܩܵܠܵܐ ܕܢܦܵܠܬܘܼܟ݂ ― pqīˁ lēh libī kaḏ šmīˁ lī qālā dnpāltūḵ ― I was greatly startled and worried when I heard the sound of your fall. (literally, “My heart popped (from fear and worry) when I heard the sound of your fall.”)

   ܩܸܡ ܦܵܩܥܸܬ ܠܹܗ ܠܸܒܝܼ ― qim pāqˁit lēh libī ― You greatly shocked and worried me

2. (transitive, intransitive) to be greatly saddened, disappointed

   ܝܼܘܸܬ ܒܸܦܩܵܥܹܗ ܠܸܒܝܼ ܡ̣ܢ ܒܵܬ݂ܲܪ ܟܠ ܬܲܢܲܝܬܵܐ ܕܟܹܐ ܢܵܚܬ݂ܵܐ ܡ̣ܢ ܠܸܫܵܢܘܼܟ݂ ― īwet bipqāˁēh libī min bāṯar kul tannaytā d-kē nāḥṯā min liššānūḵ ― You are shattering my heart with every word you say.

   ܝܼܘܲܬܝ ܦܩܝܼܥܬܹܗ ܠܸܒܝܼ ― īwat pqīˁtēh libī ― You have broken my heart.

Perfect, completed tenses that describe a single-phase event usually evince the first definition while imperfect, continuous tenses and perfect tenses that describe multiple phases evince the second definition.
