A term attested very late in the Sanskrit corpus, not mentioned in most dictionaries. Of substrate, possibly Munda, origin.[1] Connections to आटोप (āṭopa, “puffing, swelling”) are doubtful. Related to Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀝𑁄𑀧𑀺𑀆 (ṭopiā, “helmet”), whence Hindi टोपी (ṭopī, “hat”).[2]
