From Proto-Indo-Iranian *rayHwā́ns (“wealthy, opulent; brilliant, splendid”), from Proto-Indo-European *reh₁i-wént-s. Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬉𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬧𐬙 (raēuuaṇt, “brilliant, splendid; rich, opulent”). Also compare the Old Armenian proper noun Երուանդ (Eruand), an Iranian borrowing.

     रे॒वाँ इद् रे॒वतः॑ स्तो॒ता स्यात् त्वाव॑तो म॒घोनः॑ ।

     revā́m̐ íd revátaḥ stotā́ syā́t tvā́vato maghónaḥ.

     May the praiser of someone as rich and generous as you be rich.

2. brilliant, splendid, beautiful

     अग्न॑ ए॒षु क्षये॒ष्व् आ रे॒वन् नः॑ शुक्र दीदिहि द्यु॒मत् पा॑वक दीदिहि ॥
