Inherited from Sanskrit दुग्धिका (dugdhikā) (not attested outside of lexicographer's lists), from दुग्ध (dugdha, milk) +‎ -इका (-ikā).[1] Cognate with Hindustani دودھی / दूधी (dūdhī) and Marathi दुध्या (dudhyā).
