From 見じ (miji, “not wanting to see”, formed from 見 (mi), the 未然形 (mizenkei, “irrealis or incomplete form”) of verb 見る (miru) + じ (ji, a suffix forming the negative volitional form of verbs)) +‎ め (-me, “to a more exaggerated degree”, a suffix producing na-adjectives).

The 送り仮名 (okurigana) め (me) is used to indicate the reading.
