Derived from a toponym derived from Old Dutch Ano (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ing- and a second toponym derived from a compound of nij (“new”) and hof (“farmstead, homestead”). The two toponyms are further suffixed with hoek (“isolated place”). Named after a pair of former farms.
