First attested as in daginghem in the late 10th century. Originally a compound of either Old Dutch Dago (a personal name) or Dano (a personal name) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ing- and heem (home, settlement). The second element was gradually replaced with kamp (enclosed piece of land). Compare Breklenkamp, Greffelkamp, Gölenkamp, Haftenkamp and Höcklenkamp.
