German
Etymology
Borrowed from Dutchpompelmoes. Further origin uncertain, but the first two syllables are probably—either originally or by secondary association—the dated Dutch noun pompel(“something squat or plump”), to which compare German pummelig. Formerly, the form Pompelmuse was also used; the -a- may be due to influence by Frenchpamplemousse, also from the Dutch.
