Illyrian

Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *dorkw-o-.Cognate to Ancient Greek δόρπον (dórpon, supper, dinner; evening) and Albanian darkë (supper, dinner; evening). Has entered the declension of the feminine ā-stems. According to A. Lubotsky and M. de Vaan, considering the distribution of the term, Greek, Albanian and Illyrian strongly suggest borrowings from an old Balkan substrate source.

Noun

*drakoina

  1. supper, dinner (evening meal)
  2. feast
