    • Morphologically possibly from reinterpreting of some deverbal agent nouns (e.g. *kovačь*kovati +‎ *-čь : *kovъ +‎ *-ačь). Synchronically it is an independent suffix.
    • Semantically it's close to denominal suffix *-atъ. But in this case form **-aťь is expected, though compare *porťa : *porkъ.
