Subclass of the broader suffix *-nikъ, particularly formed on the basis of the past passive participle suffix *-anъ +‎ *-ikъ.

*-anikъ m

1. From verbs in a-conjugation, predominantly forms agent nouns.

   ‎*posъlati (“to send an envoy”) + ‎*-anikъ → ‎*posъlanikъ (“envoy”)

   ‎*pomazati (“to anoint”) + ‎*-anikъ → ‎*pomazanikъ (“anointed person”)

   ‎*jьzbьrati (“to choose, to select”) + ‎*-anikъ → ‎*jьzbьranikъ (“elected person”)

   ‎*jьzgъnati (“to chase away”) + ‎*-anikъ → ‎*jьzgъnanikъ (“exile”)

   ‎*vъzpitati (“to bring up”) + ‎*-anikъ → ‎*vъzpitanikъ (“pupil”)

• Less productive.
• In many cases, the derivation feels more natural if one applies *-ikъ directly onto the participle (X-anъ → X-anikъ).

• *-anica f, *-aničьka f (feminine counter-parts)
