Etymology

Particularly: “Perhaps a derivation of sedlo n (saddle, noun) or sedlat (to saddle, verb) + -oň: cf. Sedlák (from sedlák, literally “farmer”, synchronically from sedlo +‎ -ák) and Sedláček (from sedláček, diminutive of sedlák); the word for “saddler” is sedlář. Alternatively, perhaps a derivation of sedlina f (dregs, noun) or (more likely) of its etymon, sedlý (adjective); cf. English Lees, a habitational surname from lees (sediment that settles during fermentation of beverages). Cf. Bartoň, Duchoň, Kofroň, Radoň, and Štědroň.”
