Etymology
Attested as STROOIJEDORP (HET) in 1847. Compound of stro (“straw”) and dorp (“village, settlement”). Named for the fact that the first houses of the settlement were constructed with straw roofs, as well as to contrast with nearby Plankendorp. Compare Stroobos, Stroodorpe, Strooiendorp and Strooienstad.
