Which other names of countries need(ed) an article before? I know about the UK, the USA, the SSSR, the Netherlands, the Lebanon and the Ukraine. What else? I'd gladly make an appendix if you tell me what it should be called. Appendix:Names of countries that need an article before or Names of countries with article? Not the Lebanon, just Lebanon. You may be thinking of the Levant. We say the USSR, not the SSSR. Also, the Argentines (an old and poetic word for Argentina), and the Sudan. —Stephen 22:33, 24 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I heard Lebanon with an article in the movie Kingdom of Heaven and I asked my British host family to search for that and I was told it was just an archaism, but it used to be said. See the page Lebanon. Might be a Briticism. Sorry for the USSR, SSSR was a simple translit... Thanks again, Ferike333 14:59, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
