Etymology

Flibjib8 (talkcontribs) added this etymology; not sure about the Ancient Greek for wood; we have only ξύλον (xúlon) to mean wood; can't find kalon at all; we have καλών (kalṓn) with a totally different meaning (lovely, nice). Is this an error or a word we lack? Mglovesfun (talk) 18:32, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

κᾶλον (wood, seasoned wood, “κᾶλον ἐν ἱαρῷ πεφυκός” Berl.Sitzb.1927.157 (Cyrene); elsewh. only in plural, κᾶλα = ξύλα, logs for burning). Probably from καίω, to set on fire. —Stephen (Talk) 07:13, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
