kawaii desu

Borrowed into English? Really? --EncycloPetey 01:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have seen "kawaii" used as a loanword over the Internet, where it seems to be a more emphatic way of saying "cute". "Kawaii desu" I find harder to believe, since "desu" occurs in numerous contexts in Japanese and, as far as I'm aware, simply means "is". GBS gives no indication that the phrase is used outside of Japanese. RobbieG 18:22, 31 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Romaji version of Japanese polite way of saying "it's cute". (kawaii by itself is "it's cute", adding desu just makes it polite, not redundant) Would be genuinely surprised to see this in English use. Sum of parts anyway. Cynewulf 06:55, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
