I've moved User:Timwi's changes from the article to here, and merged in what looked sensible. -Wikibob 00:33, 18 Jul 2004 (UTC)
I found the following in the Sandbox. Please someone merge the information. — Timwi 16:52, 17 Jul 2004 (UTC)
to optimize (optimized)
(1844) back-formation from optimist.
From the above and below I merged in two intransitive verb meanings:
Other dictionary sites do list two intransitive meanings, has:
To be optimistic or act optimistically. To become optimal.
has the acting as an optimist meaning recorded in 1844 and making the most of meaning in 1857.
I left the related terms untouched, and finally I synchronised the changes with optimise.

It must be related to Ancient Greek ὀπτῐκός (optĭkós, “of or for sight”), but I have no proofs. 46.211.96.224 20:00, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Is optimization a valid noun? Or can only optimizing be used? Wiki-uk 16:10, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
