Actual talent or competitive advantage?

The definition of talent given is invidious in my opinion, I would say talent is rather an ability for creative self-expression, instead of sheer being able to perform better than others. As in, "genius does what it must and talent does what it can." Doing what you can does not automatically make you superior relative to others, nor does it complete its purpose once you are. Also problem solving and innovation are greater when everyone acquires or develops new skills, not a certain small group monopolizes them at the expense of everybody else. This is the purpose of Wikipedia. Therefore I do not believe the number and percentage of talented people is an unchanging one. 24.184.234.24 17:24, 27 September 2009 (UTC)LeucineZipperReply

Talent is a person's inborn or unconsciously acquired ability to learn certain skills. This ability can be interpreted meaningfully only by comparing the individual to others, whom (based on certain plausible parameters) we would expect to learn with similar ease or difficulty. 178.4.151.244 05:47, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't say so. If only one person existed in the universe, that person could still have a talent for juggling (if they're good at throwing and catching), or not (if they are a clumsy ball-dropper). We don't need other people to compare. Equinox 05:52, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
