> You're a lucky guy to be eating anything right now. Instead you might easily be feeding the tunny fish and tarpon, to say nothing of the astronesthes and myctophids--
the tunny fish is not using tunny as noun synonym of tuna; I think that is considered an adjective. Emanuele6 (talk) 08:57, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
- It's not an adjective (compare "tractor" in "tractor parts": you can't be "very tractor", or say "those parts are tractor!"), but I agree an example with "tunny" alone would be clearer. 2A00:23C5:FE1C:3701:3DE6:D319:85F9:3589 08:58, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
- Yes, I am not good with this terminology. I think adjective is the most fitting description, but maybe it is neither an adjective nor a noun?
- Anyway the "tunny" in that sentence is really not a noun, I don't think.
- Perhaps there should be a tunny fish page for that quotation like there is a page for tuna fish as well as tuna.
- Also consider "tuna sandwich"; isn't "tuna" an adjective there, I don't think it's a noun? Emanuele6 (talk) 09:02, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
- No, it’s an attributive noun. All nouns can be used like this. Theknightwho (talk) 13:12, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
