Template:RQ:Twain Joan

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Mark Twain’s work Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc as it was first published in Harper’s New Monthly Magazine (April 1895 – April 1896). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive:

• Volume XC of Harper’s: [book I], part I.
• Volume XCI of Harper’s: [book I], part II.
• Volume XCII of Harper’s: books II–III.

The template takes the following parameters:

• |1= or |chapter=, or |part= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from page 683, specify (depending on which is quoted) either |chapter=Preface for “Translator’s Preface” or |part=I for part I.
• |1= or |chapter= – if not quoting from “Translator’s Preface”, the chapter number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals. The chapter numbers start from I in each book and part.
• |section= – a section of the work quoted from; for example, |section=footnote.
• |2= or |page=, or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
  • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

You must specify this information to have the template determine the volume, book, and part quoted from, and to link to the online version of the work.

• |3= or |column=, or |columns= – the column number(s) quoted from, either |column=1 or |column=2. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or separate the column numbers with an en dash, like this: |columns=1–2.
• |4=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, “some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell”) rather than an actual use of it (for example, “we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset”), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
