This template is powered by Module:tr-pr and is used to display the phonemic (and optionally phonetic) transcription(s) of a Turkish word.
This template normally takes one parameter, which is a phonemic respelling of the word, using circumflexed vowels (â î û
) to mark the palatalization of a neighbouring k
, g
or l
, and vowel length in open syllables. Non-final stress must be marked with an apostrophe ('
) before the stressed syllable. For example, for hayal (dream), zaten (“already”) and lazım (“necessary”) one must use:
which produce:

If palatalization occurs without lengthening in an open syllable, or a long vowel occurs next to a velar k
, g
or l
, then they need to be marked respectively with an asterisk (*
) following the consonant, or a colon (:
) following the vowel. Colons are also used to force long vowels in closed syllables. Asterisks are also used to mark palatalization next to the vowel o
, and the palatalization of only one consonant of a given syllable. For example, for katil (“killer”), kâğıt (“paper”), rol (“role”) and kalp (“heart”) one must use:
{{tr-pr|ka:til}}
{{tr-pr|k*ağıt|kâ:t|q2=colloquial}}
(see below for the usage of |q=
){{tr-pr|rol*}}
{{tr-pr|kal*p}}
which produce:

If the respelling is the same as the page title, then no parameters are needed. For example, for kural (“rule”), Hakkâri and zekâlı (“witted”), whose phonemic respellings would be kural
, Hakkâri
and zekâlı
, one must use:
{{tr-pr}}
which produces:

If a term has multiple possible pronunciations, these must be given as separate parameters, the first of which can be left empty if it is the same as the page title. To assign qualifiers to a pronunciation, one can provide them with the parameters |qual=
or |q=
. For example, for kahve (“coffee”) one must use:
{{tr-pr||ka:ve|q2=colloquial}}
which produces:

If a word does not have phonemic stress (e.g. in the case of a postposition), this must be marked with the parameter |nostress=
or |ns=
. For example, for mi (interrogative particle) one must use:
{{tr-pr|ns=1}}
which produces:

If the last vowel of a term lengthens before a vowel-initial suffix (e.g. the definite accusative ending), this should be marked by following the respelling with a plus sign (+
), followed by the accusative vowel. If the respelling is the same as the page title, it should be omitted. Any qualifiers assigned to a pronunciation will also be assigned to its accusative form's transcription. For example, for ikametgâh (“residence”) and hâl (“state”) on must use:
which produce:

If such lengthening is also accompanied by the lenition of the final consonant (i.e. a final p
, t
or k
respectively turning into b
, d
or ğ
), the plus sign should be replaced with a hyphen (-
), without changing anything else. For example, for imdat (“help”), one must use:
{{tr-pr|-ı}}
which produces:

If a word contains an optional glottal stop, this should be transcribed as q
. For example, for Kur'an-ı Kerim (“Qur'an”), one must use:
{{tr-pr|'Kurqânı Kerim+i}}
which produces:

Phonetic transcriptions can optionally be given manually by providing a parameter enclosed in square brackets (). For example, for şeker (“sugar”), one may use:
{{tr-pr||}}
which produces:

The same can be done for phonemic transcriptions. For example for g, one must use:
{{tr-pr|/ɡ/|/ɟ/|ge|q=near back vowels|q2=near front vowels|q3=letter name}}
which produces:
