Used to mark text in angle brackets, which are used to mark graphemes, i.e. letters used in orthography, to distinguish them from phonemic or phonetic notation in the International Phonetic Alphabet, or to simply make it clear that the text is discussing particular graphemes.
For example, while /a/ (phonemic) represents the phoneme a and (phonetic) represents the phone a, ⟨a⟩ represents the grapheme a, i.e. whichever sound is, or sounds are, represented by the letter a in a particular language or orthography.
It only takes a single parameter, which is the text to be displayed within the angle brackets.
