short a in Afrikaans phonology

Hi, since you're the main author of Afrikaans phonology, how do you think the short a of Afrikaans should be transcribed? As you have noted in the article, /a/, /ä/ and /ɑ/ have all been used. (Also @Naudefj in case you're interested.) ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 12:55, 6 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Lingo Bingo Dingo I've got no idea which symbol is the most correct one phonetically, but Afrikaans phonology uses /a/ and I think that's the best symbol. I'm sure that the long /ɑː/ is fully back, but I'm not sure how fronted is /a/ in comparison to /ɑː/. Maybe it's variable, but most sources I've seen describe it as more front than /ɑː/.
/ä/ is the worst choice. We don't need to use diacritics in phonemic transcription. Mr KEBAB (talk) 01:50, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I'll use /a/. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 12:14, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Luxembourgish

You should refrain from making fancy edits on Luxembourgish phonology as you clearly have insufficient understanding of it. See e.g. biergof. — This unsigned comment was added by 92.78.94.229 (talk).

Sorry. I see that it was already wrong before your edit. Nevertheless, your phonemic form was wrong even based on the wrong phonetic form because there's no phonemic voice distinction in the syllable coda. — This unsigned comment was added by 92.78.94.229 (talk).
