Okay! Thank you for this very very useful bot^^ Pharamp 16:04, 2 December 2008

Initialisms and AFI

Please do not begin the definition of an initialism by saying it is an initialism. The header says that already. Would you define a noun as "a noun that means"? No. Neither should an initialism be defined that way. --EncycloPetey 18:09, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, I've only tried to edit this version of the page (http://en.wiktionary.orghttps://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=AFI&oldid=4728956) that was very confusing. I saw your version of AFI but there's a problem. In Italian and in Spanish AFI is not only the initialism of the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)... like in English. I tried to edit it in the Sandbox (http://en.wiktionary.orghttps://en.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Wiktionary:Sandbox&oldid=5637869) please say me if it is OK. thanks :) -- Pharamp

I see what you mean. I have edited the Spanish section to show you another way to write the information. --EncycloPetey 18:35, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay!! Thank you. I've added the Spanish pronunciation and the capital letters. I will search on the other wiktionaries some other valid information. Please check later!! thank you so much^^ -- Pharamp

Also, if AFI is an initialism in Spanish, then it would be pronounced /ˌa ˌef ˈi/, using the name of each letter, rather than as a word. I expect the one meaning IPA is an initialism, but I don't know about the one refering to the Agencia. If it is pronounced as a word, then it is an acronym, and not an initialism. --EncycloPetey 19:54, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

http://es.wiktionary.orghttps://dictious.com/en/AFI and http://es.wiktionary.orghttps://dictious.com/en/sigla say that in Spanish it is an acronym. takk! Pharamp

The word sigla in Spanish does not distinguish between a true acronym and an initialism. Even in English, the word (deprecated template usage) acronym can loosely be applied to initialisms as well. We make a more careful distinction on Wikitionary because this distinction affects pronunciation. --EncycloPetey 21:19, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

First, please take a look at what you are pasting! Second, I know the old inflection templates need to be tidied up, but your new format is pretty different from what other inflected forms have been, as far as I can tell. Do you have any particular reason to change the format/have there been any discussion (which I in such a case is unaware of) which has decided to do so? \Mike 21:04, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

First, I excuse me for the bjork/cypress. I copy the format of bjork, edit with the correct words and I was checking when you send this :) Second, I didn't unterstand what you said. The yellow/brown template here http://en.wiktionary.orghttps://dictious.com/en/björk for exemple is not made by me, it was here from a lot of time! If you speak about the format, I use "my" format for Icelandic words that I "create" uniting two slightly different pre-existing format. I think it is more complete/easy to unterstand and I don't know other format that are not a simple list (like here: http://en.wiktionary.orghttps://dictious.com/en/arks). I really like to expand Swedish inflected nouns so please let me know which format is the best/what I have to use. bye. -- Pharamp

Sorry, no, I meant the entries for the inflections (such as björkarna), not the headword. I'm not quite sure why the "simple list" of arks wouldn't sufficient or good enough? Or which "two formats" you used? The format which is standard for e.g. English (as in arks) and in Spanish (as in duerme) or in French (as in dormais) all are based on such lists. So which formats you combined, I unfortunately don't know and really can't say anything about...
When it comes to creation of the inflections, of course it's fine if you want to do that manually, but otherwise one really should write a bot to add them. To me it seems a bit unnecessary to do that by hand.
Now, please don't get me wrong: I really think it is wonderful that you are interested in Swedish and wants to help! \Mike 21:48, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
here: http://en.wiktionary.orghttps://dictious.com/en/apa#Icelandic -> the "format" I use for Icelandic inflections + declension table.
It's my personal opinion, after I will do the best for everyone and what Wiki says, but for exemple in http://en.wiktionary.orghttps://dictious.com/en/bjarkir bjarkir have only one meaning (birch tree, inflection of bjork) but different roles in the sentence (subject, complement object ecc.) so it's why I use this "format".
It's all still OK, and me too I think a bot will do a good job for us. For Italian plurals there's one working.
Finally, excuse me for my English. it's so difficult for me write only a sentence :D

lente a contatto‎

Multi-word Italian nouns are a bit fiddly to format. See lente a contatto‎ for how we format the headword so that the bot will generate the plural automatically. SemperBlotto 14:28, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
