Wiktionary:Aromanian entry guidelines

We largely follow the orthographical scheme laid out by Tiberius Cunia and the Bitola Symposium of 1997. There is however a number of freedoms among those rules that take into consideration the dialect of the writer. For the sake of lemmatisation and the |norm= parameter, note the following rules.

1. The phoneme /ɣ/ is always spelt ⟨y⟩ whenever fronted, i.e. , but for the unfronted realisation, which may be or depending on the dialect, the standard allows both ⟨gh⟩ and ⟨g⟩. We choose to lemmatise at ⟨gh⟩. Similarly, we choose to lemmatise at ⟨dh⟩ and ⟨th⟩ for /ð/ and /θ/ instead of the occlusive variant, as most dictionaries by other authors do.
2. Final unstressed /e/, variously pronounced in dialects as , or , may be spelt either ⟨i⟩ or ⟨e⟩ according to the standard. We choose ⟨e⟩ in order to avoid confusion with the otherwise identically spelt non-syllabic final i. Unstressed monosyllables however, such as di, pri, tsi, must always be spelt with ⟨i⟩.
3. Final /ˈuə/ has various realisations, including , and . All can be analysed as realisations of the presented phonemes, so they should all be spelt ⟨uã⟩, as the standard demands.
4. There seems to be a phonetic distinction between /je/ and /e/, however the standard instists on spelling both as ⟨e⟩. However sceptical, we choose to follow their reasoning.
