Internationalism chiefly via German Anorak.[1] Ultimately from Greenlandic annoraaq,[2] possibly related to Greenlandic anori (wind).[3] The Greenlandic term is from Greenlandic *atnuʀaaq (clothing), cognate with Inuktitut ᐊᓐᓄᕌᑦ (annoraat, clothing). First attested in 1941.
