Unknown. Huehnergard explains it as a derivation from Proto-Semitic *bV- (in) and Proto-Semitic *šuʔa (it), comparing it to colloquial Arabic فيه (, there is/are, literally in it) and Ge'ez (bo, there is/are, literally in it).
