Perhaps from a variant of Sanskrit वीटा (vīṭā, small piece of stick), some of whose descendants mean "bundle", including Prakrit 𑀯𑀺𑀁𑀝 (viṃṭa, wrapping of fruit), 𑀯𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀻 (viṭṭī, bundle), 𑀯𑀺𑀁𑀝𑀮𑀺𑀆 (viṃṭaliā, bundle), Hindi बींड़ा (bī̃ṛā, twist of grass).[1] Turner does not list any Dardic cognates.
