From Old Anatolian Turkish طَانِشْمَقْ (danışmaq),[1] ultimately a derivation of Proto-Turkic *tạnu- (to know, get to know),[2][3] whence also Azerbaijani tanımaq. Cognate with Karakhanid تَنُشْماقْ (tanušmāq, to talk to each other), Ottoman Turkish طانشمق (danışmak, to advice, counsel).
