Izafet II compound of diş (tooth) +‎ məcun. The word məcun originally meant "delicious". The sense "toothpaste" was derived as a semantic parallel semantic loan from or a calque of Russian зубная паста (zubnaja pasta). Alternatively, borrowed from Turkish diş macunu to replace the Russian calque diş pastası.
