From Old Anatolian Turkish izle- (“to trace”). Cognate with Turkish izlemek. Ultimately a derivation of Proto-Turkic *īŕ, *ï̄ŕ (trace, furrow), whence also Old Turkic (iz, footprint, trace),[1] Azerbaijani iz (footprint), etc. By surface analysis, iz (footprint) +‎ -lə.
