Polish
Etymology
From earlier półk, połk, ultimately from Proto-Slavic *pъlkъ. The phonetic change of oł > ół > uł suggests a borrowing from Old Ruthenian полкъ (polk),[1] although the evolution l̥ > oł > uł or l̥ > oł or uł after a labial consonant is probably also possible in Polish.[2] Displaced native Old Polish *pełk, found in Polish given names and toponyms.[1]
