From Old Anatolian Turkish سوكوشاك (sügüşek/süŋüşek), سوكوشاك (sügşek/süŋşek), which is believed to be a derivation of Proto-Turkic *süŋgü (“spear”). First attested in texts between 1355 and 1402.[1] Cognate with Turkish şimşek.
