From Proto-Hellenic *gʷigʷrṓskō, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷi-gʷr̥h₃-sḱé-ti, from i-reduplicated *gʷerh₃- (“to swallow, devour, eat”) + *-sḱéti. Cognate Latin voro, Sanskrit गिरति (giráti).[1]
