Likely of Pre-Greek origin, based on Furnée's comparison with λαιφός (laiphós) and λαιφάσσω (laiphássō, “to swallow, gulp down”) and the observed μ/φ variation. Possibly related also to λαῖπος (laîpos).^[1]
