“Ukrainization” has very often actually been a Russification, because many words created in the process are only lexically Ukrainian while remaining structurally Russian. So literal is the imitation of Russian structures that even the abbreviation gorsovet (city council) has been translated into Ukrainian as misʹkrada although it “economizes” only one vowel and not six sounds, as in Russian. The full Russian and Ukrainian forms are gorodskoj sovet and misʹka rada.
