Probably inherited from Old Slovak sled, *slid, perhaps with influence from Carpathian Rusyn слїд (sljid), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *slědъ. Cognates include Czech and Slovak sled, Polish ślad and Ukrainian слід (slid).
