The earlier form was *արհ (*arh) as proven by some compounds and Old Georgian ზარი (zari). A Middle Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian (ʾhl /āhr/, “dread, fury”), Avestan 𐬁𐬌𐬚𐬌𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬥𐬙- (āiθiuuant-, “freightening”).[1][2] For the loss of -ր- (-r-) compare բահ (bah).
