Ulmus laevis

From ծփալ (cpʻal, to flutter) +‎ (-i, botanical suffix). Calque of German Flatterulme, from flattern (to flutter). Probably coined by the Mekhitarists of Vienna, first appearing in Mēnēvišean's botany and hence copied into dictionaries.
