According to Ačaṙyan, from earlier *պուղց (*pułcʻ), inherited from Proto-Indo-European *bul-sḱ-, extended from the root *bul- (“to swell”); among the cognates he compares especially Sanskrit बुलि (buli, “vulva; anus”), Lithuanian bulìs (“buttock”). Related to պղպջակ (płpǰak), պլլիկ (pllik).
